Most Indians who want to adopt children under 2 years of age

Most children of this age group are not legally free to adopt. According to data released by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), the age of 2,537 children who were adopted in 2017-18 were less than two years whereas the number of children aged two years was merely 597.

New Delhi: More than 80 percent of the children adopted in the year 2017-18 were under the age of two years but most of the children of this age group are not legally free to adopt. According to data released by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), the age of 2,537 children who were adopted in 2017-18 were less than two years whereas the number of children aged two years was merely 597.

According to the data, 228 children were adopted in the age group of two to four years, 143 children from four to six years were adopted and the number of children adopted more than six years was 226. Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Deepak Kumar, CEO of Kara said, "There are more than 8,000 registered caregivers with Kara. He has more than 90 percent children from five to six years. The number of such couples in India is very small, who want to adopt a child of this age group.

Kumar said that in this way the children of this age are sent to any families for upbringing. This is called Foster Care. Deepak Kumar said, "We know that adoption of children from five to six years old will not be easy. In such a situation, he has grown up in a child care institution, instead he is sent to a family for parenting. '

Kumar said that most couples want to adopt young people but we do not have children legally free for adoption of that age. He said, "Nearly 20,000 couples have applied for adoption of Kara, but the children of the age group of the age of the children are not with us. According to the Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System (CARINGS), only one child is available compared to every nine couples who want to adopt.

Inward adoption is a inverse trend, where 389 of the 718 adopted children was more than two years old. He said that only children who are not found in India can be given only for adoption in other countries.
